For those following the skinny dog story. He came home with us on Saturday. He weighed in a roughly 17 pounds. We believe he is an approximately 4 to 5 month old American pitbull. At this age he should be about 10 to 15 pounds heavier. He was found by Ziggy in Wingate, TX (Northwest Texas, just South of Abilene) in well below freezing temps. With no body fat or any hope of shelter, he most certainly would be dead. When we met him he was extremely lethargic and could barely walk, yet very accepting of love and attention. Without knowing anything about humans he was happy despite his condition. A mere 2 days later, with the info from Zig about his care and advice from our local vet, he is doing well. We have named him Bones (due to his condition and the fact that he was found by an archaeologist). He is now responding to his name, a couple of basic commands and doing fantastic with our little Freeway, the cats and Jacob. The stairs in our house vex him tremendously. Pictures do nothing to show his condition or the love his healing body expresses. He still has a long way to go, but is just the sweetest beastie.
